THE GRIFFIN THEATRE COMPANY OPENS Chicago, IL, January 3, 2008: The Griffin Theatre Company kicks off their Nineteenth Season with a rare revival of RC Sherriff’s powerful World War I drama and recent Tony Award winner, JOURNEY’S END. Press opening is Sunday, January 27, 2008 at 6:00pm. Tickets are on sale now at Theatre Building Chicago, (773) 327-5252, or online at www.ticketmaster.com. JOURNEY’S END is a powerful account of the need for human connection in the midst of the inhumane realities of war. Only yards away from the enemy, a group of British officers prepare for the final German offensive in the Great War. Dug into trenches and surrounded by barbed wire and mortar fire, the men, lead by a young Captain Stanhope, are keeping a stiff upper lip in the face of fatality, futility and fear. They all have their escapes; Lt. Osborne reads Lewis Carroll, 2nd Lt. Trotter enjoys a good meal and Stanhope drinks. When a new young officer joins the company, fresh and full of hope, the facades holding the men together start to strain, just as the moment of attack comes barreling forward. R.C. Sherriff's classic drama is revived for Chicago audiences under the direction of Jonathan Berry. Berry’s previous Griffin productions include Time and the Conways, Dead End and the upcoming Be More Chill. The Chicago cast includes Rom Barkhordar, Brad Bukauskas, Sean Bolger, John Dixon, Hans Fleishman, Paul S. Holmquist, Kevin Kingston, Dylan Lower, Nigel Patterson and Christopher M. Walsh. The Design team for JOURNEY’S END includes: Josh Horvath (Sound), Alison Siple (Costumes), Heather Gilbert (Lights), and Jessica Kuehnau (Set). In addition, Griffin Artistic Directors William Massolia and Richard Barletta are in the final phase of negotiations to secure a permanent facility in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago and will be making an announcement shortly.
